I sketched this out a few weeks ago and didn’t like it, then suddenly changed my mind today. Not enough to finish it but… yeah. Slapped some colour on and decided to upload.
I’ve been drawing so many pretty pictures of Kay lately while Alice gets all my thoughtful/melancholy/sentimental art. Felt I owed my number 1 gal a new cute picture, and also felt like playing around a little bit with my style just slightly.
This didn’t come out quite as I hoped, namely colour-wise, but still pretty happy with it. Drew it while listening to this new band discovery of mine. As a final fun fact, I decided to give drawing at lower resolution a try after reading some advice about it from one of my fave artists, Robaato. I’m kind of indifferent on it because it… pretty much made no difference lol. Still needed to refine my lines and stuff in the same way I normally do. But still, kind of cool that this was drawn pretty much at the size seen on dA/pixiv (and here if you left click then right click and view image to enlarge) from start to finish.
Subverting expectations by drawing something that isn’t a girl seems like such a good idea until I actually start doing it. God I was bored of making this like 2 minutes after starting. Still, got a weekly fanart quota to fill. It kind of came out a little Wind Waker-ish.
Cool, I’ve hit 150 followers here. Not a special enough milestone to draw a pic but what the hey.
Welcome, and thank you everyone! I hope you followed because you like cartoon girls and fanart cuties and not because of that silly Gordon Freeman comic I drew in 10 minutes, because I draw more of the former than the latter, lol.
Just a little something or rather. I really really couldn’t decide whether to hard or soft shade this so I might go back and do a hard shaded version too later.
So I feel I’ve been making decent strides lately in reducing my same-face-syndrome in my fanart, but it’s pretty easy to come up with unique faces for those by borrowing elements from the art style of the character’s origin. Meanwhile I never know what to do with my own characters because I have to come up with their faces on my own.
Anyway decided to give myself a little challenge here. Alice’s face is unchanged from how I normally draw it, but the rest of the characters were drawn with Alice underneath them as a guide on what NOT to draw so to speak. Venus had no changes, I’m happy with her design. Polly doesn’t look enough like Polly so I’m not happy with her. Her face is okay but I dunno, think I did her hair a little too short/not fluffy enough. Rani had only a couple of minor changes. Chrysan went against her usual style of me drawing her quite rounded and cute by giving her a slightly longer face and more defined nose to draw some more similarities to her brother Professor Chin. I like how she came out but I certainly prefer her previous look. Laura had the most drastic overhaul, and half of it is hidden by her new hairstyle. I feel she’s deserved a better hairstyle for a while. Her current fringe is so boring and is too similar to Alice’s original hairstyle. Laura had similar eyeshape to Alice previously, but I tended to always draw her with a slightly cocky “constantly pleased with herself for some reason” angry eyebrows-but-not-actually-angry expression as a trademark look for her. I applied that expression directly into her eye shape here. She also has blunter ends to her eyebrows than Alice and I gave her a slightly pointier chin. Overall I like this design for her, I feel it captures her energy at a little more.
Gonna admit, I’m kind of in an awkward place at the moment where I still get the occasional person saying I give everyone the same face despite my best efforts and I just dunno how much further I can go without going full western cartoon style and abandoning cuteness for the sake of diversity. I’m still just a tad too much a fan of anime-esque styles to make that jump.
The thought of translating such a chibified anime into my own style was pretty daunting but I actually really feel like I got them spot on here.
Lucky Star was a nice show. In terms of waifus you could say these two are old flames of mine.
I finally got round to finishing the second sequence of my Kay comic. This one isn’t anywhere near nsfw as the first, with much more story/comedy, but it still contains adult content. You can read a (sfw visually, but mature tagged due to sexual themes) preview here on dA, or read the full thing on my nsfw art tumblr or pixiv.
Just a doodle inspired by eating dark chocolate orange rice cakes in jammies at 1am and watching the rain outside. Don’t tell Mollfie I was eating her ricecakes.

A little bit early for Fanart Friday but whateveeeer. This is Demi from Cloudbuilt, a fairly cool indie 3D platformer with a focus on parkour and speedrunning (but fairly enjoyable just to casually play through too). I actually first played it at MCM just randomly and was a little intrigued by it there. When it reappeared in my life via the Steam Sale it became a no brainer to grab it. It is a ridiculously hard game but I sure felt good just about scraping through to every ending as a result, though no way I’d have the patience to get into the speedrunning scene. One of the final levels took me through a good 50+ lives.
But my thoughts on the game aside, Demi has a super cool design and I loved the soundtrack, and since I was desperate to draw the former while listening to the latter, huzzah, early Friday Fanart results. I’d like to draw a more dynamic pic of her some day perhaps, but I can never do such a thing with armour-clad/robotty characters the first time I draw them.
Another commission, this time for JezMM, Venus.
So so happy with how this came out, thanks again!
As is the case with pretty much any picture I’m especially proud of, I didn’t record myself drawing this but thought I’d throw together a process gif via the layered/WIP files. The entire loop totals just over a minute and a half to watch.
As a small bit of trivia, in the first few frames you’ll notice she has an extra little detail of wearing a public pool locker key bracelet around her leg. I axed it before colouring because it was making the lower half of her leg look too short. Also, not shown here, at one point I drew her goggles at the correct size required to fit her giant cartoon eyes/head. The curse of such a style is that oversized eyewear looks fine when in use, but looks like a comically oversized prop when held. In the end I sort of went for something a little smaller than what would fit her but a little larger than reality.
Final Image here.
The missus and I have gotten back into swimming every week lately and last time we went I just got this picture in my head and it refused to leave. I kind of went the extra mile on it and I’m glad I did because it ended up coming out almost exactly as I’d hoped. Maui is my fave character of hers so this ended up quite a bit on the pin-up end of the scale. You could say it’s a gift for her in the same way buying lingerie for your significant other is a gift “for them”.
